Seeking: House Administrator for Sherwood-Jayne Farm

Position
Reporting to the Education & Public Programs Director, the Sherwood-Jayne House
Administrator serves as our representative to the local community and is responsible for
coordinating programs and special events at the Sherwood-Jayne Farm, including regular house
tours and the Long Island Apple Festival, which is held annually in September.

Essential Duties
 Coordinate docent schedules and assist in the implementation of various programs at the
property.
 Deliver substantive house tours through the interpretation of the building, its stories, and
collections based on a thorough knowledge of the site’s history.
 Participate in the development of new programs for the site.
 Serve as local coordinator for the Long Island Apple Festival: scheduling and attending
meetings; ensuring action items are realized, communicating with vendors and event
partners; distributing local promotional materials; soliciting local donations (in-kind and
others), managing volunteers, and various day-of event duties.
 Ensure that the house, collections, and site are well maintained, reporting any problems to
headquarters staff.

Qualifications:
This position requires a self-motivated, organized, creative problem-solver with excellent
interpersonal communication skills and the ability to manage time and engage with people. The
ideal candidate has an enthusiasm for history and museums, is willing to learn and share history
with others, and is familiar with organizing large public events. Experience in historic house
interpretation and museums is preferred. Experience in social media is a plus. The candidate will
operate effectively both independently and in a team environment. Some standing, light lifting, and climbing stairs is required.

Terms:
This is a part-time position that includes weekend and occasional evening hours. Candidates
must have access to a car and be able to drive. Compensation is based on an hourly rate
commensurate with experience.

Note: Time commitments will vary seasonally and may be weekly, bi-monthly, or on an as needed basis depending on event scheduling and regular hours of operation (mainly May through
October with primary concentration from June to September).
