Position opening:  Jupiter Hammon Project Manager

Apply by February 1, 2020

Preservation Long Island (PLI) seeks a project manager to facilitate the Jupiter Hammon Project. This public-facing research and development initiative will expand the interpretation of the Joseph Lloyd Manor (an 18th-century historic house museum located in the Town of Huntington on Long Island). Based on outcomes derived through moderated discussions among scholars, local stakeholders, and descendant communities, the Jupiter Hammon Project will establish a new interpretative mission for the Joseph Lloyd Manor that encourages rigorous and relevant encounters with Long Island’s history of enslavement and introduces a more robust and equitable exploration of historical themes associated with the life of Jupiter Hammon (1711–ca. 1806), the first published African American who wrote and was enslaved at the site.
