Celebrate Juneteenth at Joseph Lloyd Manor!

Date: Thursday, June 19th, 2025 (rain date Sunday, June 22nd)
Time: 2:00-4:00 PM
Place: Joseph Lloyd Manor (1 Lloyd Lane, Lloyd Harbor)

Preservation Long Island and the Caribbean American Poetry Association are pleased to present a Juneteenth Poetry Celebration in honor of Jupiter Hammon, America’s first published Black poet. Join us at Joseph Lloyd Manor as we honor Hammon’s legacy with an afternoon of poetry, history, food, and music. The program will take place outside in the garden and include poetry readings and performances from Dr. Lindamichelle Baron, Keisha-Gay Anderson, and Yasmin Morais. The celebration will include a Student Open Poetry Mic led by Suffolk County Teen Poet Laureate Sarah Goodman, a sophomore at Commack High School, and Nassau County’s first Teen Poet Laureate, Katherine Galbraith-Chan, a member of the class of 2026 at The Wheatley School in Westbury. Long Island students are also invited to share their own original poetry in an open-mic session.  Click here for more information about the student poetry open-mic.

Joseph Lloyd Manor will be open for self-guided tours and food at 2:00 PM. The poetry program will begin in the garden at 2:30 PM.
