Historic Preservation for Long Island Communities: Huntington & Northport

Hosted by Northport-East Northport Public Library, the discussion will include three important local sites associated with prominent African Americans, including the Peter Crippin House, Booker T. Washington’s Summer House, and the John and Alice Coltrane Home.

Custom House
Starting July 22, 2022 through October 30, 2022, the house will be open for guided tour visitors only on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The house is closed to the public on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Click HERE for tour times and sign-up information.
Sherwood-Jayne Farm
Built in colonial Setauket circa 1730 and located in a bucolic setting, the house contains period furnishings and features original late eighteenth-century hand-painted floral wall frescoes. Open June-October. Click HERE to book tours.
Joseph Lloyd Manor
Completed in 1767 for Joseph Lloyd, the second lord of the Manor of Queens Village, Joseph Lloyd Manor was the seat of a 3,000 acre agricultural estate. Jupiter Hammon (1711–before 1806), one of the first published African American writers, was one of the many people of African descent enslaved at the site. Tours available June-October.
