🎉 Exciting news!🎨 We just welcomed a new face to our collection—an exceptional signed and dated 1834 oil on canvas portrait by Sag Harbor artist Orlando Hand Bears! 🖌️ Say hello to Ephraim Niles Byram (1809–1881), a prominent figure in Sag Harbor and greater Long Island history. He was a true “Renaissance Man” of his time. Not only did he make that celestial globe he’s leaning against, he was also an astronomer, clockmaker, bookbinder, horticulturalist, and woodworker!
🚛 After a special delivery yesterday to our Cold Spring Harbor Exhibition Gallery, he’s officially home! Many thanks to our generous donors and friends for making this acquisition possible at Christie’s Auction of Important Americana.
Stay tuned as we uncover and share the stories behind this important piece of Long Island history! 🏛️✨
