The 2022 Folk Art and Americana issue of The Magazine Antiques, America’s premier publication on the fine and decorative arts, features an article about Long Island artist Edward Lange written by Preservation Long Island Curator Lauren Brincat and Curatorial Fellow Peter Fedoryk.

Edward Lange (1846–1912), an entrepreneurial 19th-century painter of Long Island townscapes, produced detailed works of art in watercolor, gouache, ink, and lead pencil depicting local homesteads, businesses, and communities across the region.

The artist is the focus of The Art of Edward Lange Project, our ongoing initiative to dive deeply into his life and the work he produced during a period of Long Island’s history when its people, culture, and landscape were undergoing rapid change.
