UPDATE!

The historic Fordham Mill in Speonk has been thoughtfully restored by its new owner, the John and Elaine Kanas Family Foundation!

Fordham Mill (built 1859)
Remsenburg-Speonk, Town of Southampton, Suffolk County

Once a center of industry in the area, this lovely old sawmill served as a site of carriage-, wheel-, and coffin-making throughout its history. The property was designated as a Town of Southampton Historic Landmark in 1985 and listed as one of Preservation Long Island’s Endangered Historic Places in 2015. The mill stood vacant from about 2008 until 2017, when the John and Elaine Kanas Family Foundation acquired the property and began restoring it as the foundation’s new headquarters.

Ideal for multiple uses, the restored Fordham Mill now serves as a great model for the adaptive reuse of old industrial structures on the East End as creative office space and/or artisanal manufacturing à la the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard
