Check out our Instagram throughout #BlackHistoryMonth! We’ll be sharing highlights from our Jupiter Hammon Project roundtables. Back in 2020, we invited esteemed scholars and professionals to discuss the life of one of America’s earliest published Black authors, Jupiter Hammon and Long Island's legacy of enslavement through a series of moderated conversations.
The major topics explored were Long Island in the Black Atlantic World, the voice of Jupiter Hammon, and confronting slavery at Joseph Lloyd Manor in Lloyd Harbor, NY. All three roundtable discussions are available for viewing on our website!
Many thanks to Alistair Wright, a senior at Friends Academy in Glen Cove, New York and a Preservation Long Island 2022 Summer Intern, for putting the Instagram posts together! Friends Academy

We can't wait to check it out!
💎 Throughout the year, as we celebrate our 75th Anniversary, we'll be highlighting the members of our hardworking team that make it all happen! First up is Preservation Long Island's Curator, Lauren Brincat! 💎
On any given day, you might find Lauren surrounded by William Morris patterns deep in thought about the Yankees’ prospects for the 2023 season (shaping up to look like a pretty good team). Her cat, Blair, probably disagrees from across the room on principle while her Australian Shepherd, Woody, is just happy to be there. Lauren’s sensible taste in design, decorative arts, and baseball allegiance have been supported over the years through her work at Colonial Williamsburg, New-York Historical Society, the Museum of the City of New York, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown. She is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture at the University of Delaware and currently serves as the co-President of the Long Island Museum Association. As Curator at Preservation Long Island, Lauren has ushered along the award-winning Jupiter Hammon Project and the Art of Edward Lange Project—both currently ongoing. You can read her work in the Long Island History Journal, the Magazine of the Decorative Arts Trust, and The Magazine Antiques—and are encouraged to reach her by owl with any inquiries at: lbrincat[email protected]
