#GivingTuesday is November 29th!

This year on #GivingTuesday, we’re asking all of our friends and supporters to help us raise the funds needed to install a new HVAC system at the 18th-century Joseph Lloyd Manor. This essential maintenance project will improve climate control and air circulation critical to the care of the site’s historic collections and to the enhancement of the visitor experience.

Did you know that one of the first published African American authors was born on Long Island in 1711, survived three generations of enslavement, and lived and wrote at Joseph Lloyd Manor? His name was Jupiter Hammon. While enslaved at the Manor, Jupiter Hammon (1711–before 1806) wrote powerfully about the social and moral conflicts slavery raised in the newly formed United States.

Your gift will strengthen our multi-year initiative to develop a more relevant and equitable interpretation of Joseph Lloyd Manor, a site that enslaved generations of people of African descent.
