Join us at the Phillips House Museum for a fun and informative lecture with Tara Cubie, the Preservation Director of Preservation Long Island. In “Historic Preservation Mythbusting,” Tara will break down some of the most common myths and misunderstandings about historic preservation, using real-life examples from right here in Rockville Centre and across Long Island. The lecture is a partner event with the Rockville Center Historical Society.
You might have heard things like “historic designation means you can’t change anything about your house” or “preserving old buildings lowers property values.” Tara is here to set the record straight! She’ll explain how preservation laws are about managing change, not freezing time, and will explore some of the myths around how preservation laws dictate what you can and can’t do to your property. Whether you’re curious about your own home, local landmarks, or just want to learn more about how preservation works in our community, this lecture will offer a fresh perspective on what historic preservation really means—and why it’s important for our community’s future.
