Join Preservation Long Island and Preserve KPPC for a guided walking tour of the historic Kings Park Psychiatric Center, an iconic Long Island site with a complex history. Learn about the hospital’s origins, architecture, and its evolution through the 19th and 20th centuries.
The tour will explore the development of mental health care, the self-sustaining operations of the center, and its notable buildings, including Macy Hall and Building 93, which was funded by the New Deal. Discussions will address the impact of deinstitutionalization and the ongoing preservation efforts for the site’s remaining structures, including York Hall.
Following the tour, there will be a Q&A session where participants can discuss the site’s path to preservation, future plans, and the role of the local community in keeping its history alive.
Note:
This tour involves walking over uneven terrain. Please wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather. All attendees must adhere to safety protocols.
