#MyLongIslandLandmarks was inspired by an Instagram hashtag. What resulted was a wonderful assemblage of well-known historic “landmarks” as well as Long Island places that, on the surface, may seem ordinary but become meaningful once their stories are known.

Sherwood-Jayne Farm

Built in colonial Setauket circa 1730 and located in a bucolic setting, the house contains period furnishings and features original late eighteenth-century hand-painted floral wall frescoes. Open June-October. Click HERE to book tours.

Joseph Lloyd Manor

Completed in 1767 for Joseph Lloyd, the second lord of the Manor of Queens Village, Joseph Lloyd Manor was the seat of a 3,000 acre agricultural estate. Jupiter Hammon (1711–before 1806), one of the first published African American writers, was one of the many people of African descent enslaved at the site. Tours available June-October.
