Preservation Long Island is honored to be selected as the host organization for the Decorative Arts Trust’s 2025–27 Curatorial Internship Grant. Each award cycle, this competitive program supports one leading museum or historical society in hiring an emerging scholar to gain valuable hands-on experience while contributing to impactful curatorial projects. As the recipient of this year’s award, we are excited to welcome the next Peggy N. Gerry Curatorial Fellow to our team in 2025.
The Peggy N. Gerry Curatorial Fellow will work closely with our Chief Curator and Director of Collections, Lauren Brincat, to achieve several key goals. This includes cataloging Long Island’s rich collection of furniture found in both public and private collections, reexamining these objects through fresh perspectives, and making them more accessible to researchers and the public in the 21st century. This fellowship aligns perfectly with our commitment to fostering innovative scholarship and nurturing future generations of museum professionals. The two-year, full-time fellowship opportunity will be officially announced in early 2025.
The Decorative Arts Trust’s internship program offers recent graduates with Master’s or PhD degrees a unique opportunity to collaborate with leading museums and historical organizations. Fellows benefit from the mentorship of experienced curators, gaining invaluable insights into the responsibilities of the curatorial profession. The program aims to nurture the next generation of museum leaders while supporting the host organization’s mission. Importantly, the Decorative Arts Trust prioritizes projects that promote diversity in the study of American decorative arts and deliver a meaningful impact on the professional growth of emerging scholars.
