Sherwood-Jayne Farm Designated as a Long Island History Hunt Selfie Challenge Site
Long Island’s History Hunt returns for a new summer of fun! The Redcoats and Rebels Edition Commemorates America’s 250th. Preservation Long Island’s historic property is one of 26 participating museums, landmarks and historical sites throughout the region with ties to the Revolutionary War. Register for the Long Island History Hunt, and visit Sherwood-Jayne Farm now through September 30, 2026 to take the selfie challenge and be eligible to win prizes. Visit all sites to be entered into grand prize drawing for a $1776 cash prize.
All selfie challenge sites are located outdoors so that History Hunters can visit any time at their convenience. The grounds of Sherwood-Jayne Farm are open to the public year-round from dawn until dusk. As a bonus to those who visit museums and historic sites during opening hours, participants can pick up a Long Island History Hunt free collectible trading card featuring a key Long Island Revolutionary figure. The set includes one Revolutionary figure associated with each of the 26 different sites, plus a special Culper Spy Ring card.
For Sherwood-Jayne Farm, the historical figure featured on the card is William Jayne II, nicknamed “Big Bill the Tory, a Loyalist during the American Revolution, who lived at the farmhouse, originally built around 1730. The house and agricultural setting were maintained as an operational farmstead for over 150 years by members of the Jayne family.
